Notes
General:
Thomas Whitt married before he was of age. On the marriage license to Rebecca it was noted that Cynthia (Spears) Collins, his mother, granted her permission for Thomas; "he having no father know by law". Christopher granted 50 acres of land to Thomas at the time of their maggiage. Later as recored in Johnson Co. book #66, pg 382, on April 12 1865, Thomas acquired 369 acres on Double Lick Creek.
Thomas Whitt Spears served with the Confederacy, he enlisted 1 Sep 1862 at Piketon, Kentucky and served with Co. D and Well Company. On 17 Feb 1865 he was listed as AWOL. Kentucky Confederate Pension #3980 indicates that he surrendered at Louisa, Kentucky, May 1865 with the Well Co.
After the war, Thomas is said to have moved his family to Pike Co., Kentucky where he was a merchant. 15
