Notes
General:
In the 1790 Census, David was one of four males under 16 years of age enumerated in his father's home at Beekman (Dutchess County) New York.
In the 1800 Census, David was likely the one male aged 10-16 years old who was enumerated in his father's household at Beekman, New York.
His name first appears in Warren County Census records in 1820 as David Champlain of Queensbury. He was the founder of "Champlain's Tannery" located on Halfway Brook. The tannery was in operation from 1820-1870.
He was enumerated there again in 1830 and 1840. In the 1850 and the 1855 Census, David is enumerated there as being a farmer, but in the 1860 Census he was described as a tanner.
In the 1865 Census, David (79 NY) was enumerated in Queensbury. The Census indicated that he had been born in Dutchess County, was married once and had seven children. He lived in a frame house, owned his land. Enumerated with him was his wife Esther (76 Conn), son Horatio B. (46), daughter Lucy J. (35), Sidney Parker (37 NY - a brickmaker who was born in Washington County, New York), Sophia Parker (26 NY - Sidney's wife, also born in Washington County), Charles H. Parker (8 NY - Sidney & Sophia's son who was born in Onondaga County, New York), and Nathaniel L. "Barker" (1 4/12 NY - Also a son of Sidney & Sophia and born in Washington County). The Agricultural Census showed that David owned 15 acres of improved land and 7 acres of unimproved land valued at $1,000 and stock valued at $150. The Industrial Census indicated that David was in the leather tanning business. He had $2,000 capitol invested and 150 hides worth $300.
In the 1870 Census, David (84 NY) was enumerated at Queensbury, New York with wife Esther (81 Conn) who was described as being blind, daughter Lucy (44 NY) and son Horatio (51 NY). 37,38,74
