Notes
General:
Conflict in birth date:1732.

Elisha's stone in Poughquag's Beekman Cemetery (aka: Community Ground; aka: Poughquag Cemetery) says that he died at the age of 90.

Elisha, along with his father and brothers Joshua Jr. and William all signed the "Articles of Association" in July 1775. Every male resident (aged 16-60) was expected to sign this pledge, which was required by the Provincial Congress and the County Committee For Safety. Only about 2/3's of the men in Beekman did so and it became an early source of conflict between Loyalist and Patriot factions there.

The pledge read as follows:

"Persuaded that the Salvation of the Rights and Liberties of America, depends, under God, on the firm Union of its Inhabitants in a vigorous Prosecution of the Measures necessary for its Safety; and convinced of the necessity of preventing the Anarchy and Confusion, which attend the Dissolution of the Powers of Government. We, the Freemen, Freeholders, and Inhabitants of the County of Dutchess, being greatly alarmed at the Avowed Design of the Ministry to raise a Revenue in America; and shocked by the bloody scene now acting out in the Massachusetts Bay, Do, in the most solemn Manner resolve, never to become slaves; and do associate under all the Tie of Religion, Honor, and Love to our Country, to adopt and to endeavor to carry into Execution, whatever Measures may be recommended by the Continental Congress; or resolved upon by our Provincial Convention, for the purpose of preserving our Constitution, and opposing the Execution of the several arbitrary and oppressive Acts of the British Parliament; until a Reconciliation between Great-Britain and America, on Constitutional Principles (Which we most ardently Desire) can be obtained; And that we will, in All things follow the Advice of our General Committee, respecting the Purposes aforesaid, the Preservation of Peace and good order, and the Safety of Individuals, and private Property."

Elisha was taxed in Beekman in 1778, served as a constable there 1793-1796 and in 1800. On May 13, 1793 he was fined 40 shillings for not attending court as a Constable. In May 1794, Elisha was paid 16 shillings by the Beekman Town Supervisor for removing Jasper M. Gidley and family from Beekman to Fishkill Town. At the Town Supervisor's meeting held April 26, 1796 Elisha was voted 17 shillings for transporting Easter Sheffield from Beekman to Pawling and 1 pound/14 shillings for transporting the same woman and five children from Pawling to Fishkill.

In the 1790 Census, Elisha was enumerated at Beekman. His household was situated between the homes of Peter Sickler and Joshua Champlin and Joshua Champlin, Jr. It was comprised of himself, four males under 16 years, and three females.

On October 14, 1791 Elisha, his nephew Joshua Burtch, Jr., Rueben Cooper and Benajah Miles were all indicted for riot, assault and battery against one James Whaley. Elisha was subsequently fined 10 shillings.

In the 1800 Census, Elisha was enumerated living next to Peter Brill and Isaac Simpson. His household consisted of four males under 10 years of age, one male 10-16 years old, one male and one female 16-26 years old, one male and one female over 45 years.

In the 1810 Census, Elisha was enumerated as living next to Jeremiah Whitney and Benjamin Cornwell. His household consisted of one female under 10 years old, two males aged 10-16 years, two males 16-26 years of age, and a male and female older than 45 years.

Elisha applied for a Revolutionary War Pension on September 25, 1832 when he was 80 years old and stated that he had been born in Beekman and lived there all his life. 37,38,74
