General:
DEATH: Same, typhoid fever; Rosa Mosley Horn stated that Susan wanted to be buried beside her brother Michael, on a hill across from Crum near the Jarrell Cemetery. Rosa said that on the night of Susan's burial, it was very cold. Her husband, hitched up the horse and put the body on a sled. He took the body to be buried beside her brother. Called Suki: Vol. 65, #25824.Marriage Notes (John Wesley Mosley)
Susan's fingers were accidentally cut off by her brother Michael when he was chopping corn for feed. Susan was holding the corn, when the knife missed its mark. If you look carefully at her picture, you can see the missing finger tips. Rosa said Susan was not quite as tall as she was (5'7"), had almost
black hair and blue eyes.
Following is information from Rosa Mosley Horn Honaker: Susan was a Methodist, was shouting all the time and died shouting. She had prayer meetings every couple of nights. Had daughter Rosa baptized when she was three weeks old. Susan had pneumonia and while Rosa's husband John, George Horn, Jeff (son) and others were out making molassas, Susan was on a bed in front of the fireplace. Before the men went out, John and daughter Frances, had cooked a squirrel they had killed two days before and kept down the well, had fed the juice to Susan. Her neck and chest swelled up and when Dr. Fairchilds came he said she had been poisoned by the squirrel juice. Before she ate the squirrel, Susan asked Rosa to give her some pinto beans. Rosa didn't want to because the Dr. had said not to give her anything but Susan begged for them so Rosa fed the beans to her. When Susan took a turn for the worse, Susan sent George for the rest of them. He had come home to get water. Susan's brother, Robert, was also making molasses. About 8 a.m. , about an hour after the others came home, Susan
said: "I'm going home" and she died. She had a grey streak down the middle of her hair, just like her mother's (Margaret Horn Hobbs.) Rosa was convinced her sister had killed her mother with the squirrel juice and never forgave her for that. However, according to the death certificate, Susan died of typhoid.
This information given me on a trip to KY in 1985, the only time I ever met great aunt Rosa. At the time I met her, she had not seen her sister in many years and had some bitter things to say about her.
Rosa also stated that Uncle Bob Hobbs set out a cedar tree at Susan's grave which was located up the road on a point at Greenwaller's farm up on a hill opposite River bank. This is close to Jarrell Cem. Susan had a grey streak down the middle of her hair, just like her mother had. 12,435
